Dino’s Taverna, Milwaukee WI
In the current economic environment most of us are trying to be conservative, eat less out and get good value for money. For these reasons I’m always amazed when I walk into Dino’s for lunch during a regular week day in Milwaukee. Dino’s, a cute little restaurant in downtown Milwaukee is rarely busy and I usually find myself in the company of my lunch companion, the owner of the restaurant & the waitress, the lovely paintings around me and the Greek music in the background. Do people not know of this little place? Why is it not buzzing with activity? The food is after all, simple but flavorful, good value for money and tasty! I therefore want to use this opportunity to introduce Dino’s to those of you that don’t know it. Dino’s is a good option for a quick, well priced and satisfying lunch.
Dinos, located at 777 N. Jefferson Street in Downtown Milwaukee, very close to Cathedral Square, is a Greek restaurant specializing in various sandwich specials and salads. It distinguishes itself by serving a cup of soup with all entrees as well as serving some special Greek dishes. The soup varies daily and is always made from scratch with the freshest ingredients and is delicious. The restaurant has daily specials which usually consists of either a salad or sandwich and portions are generous, fresh and affordable.
The most recent entree that I have had at Dino’s is the Monterey Chicken sandwich, which comprises of grilled chicken, provolone cheese, bacon (optional), tomato, lettuce, mayo, served with fruit and chips. One has the option to substitute the chips for a generous portion of the side salad instead. The grilled chicken, which can also be ordered as addition to any salad entree is not moist and well seasoned.
Daily specials are priced at a mere $5.95 and believe me, you won’t leave hungry. In general I do recommend getting a sandwich as the salads tend to be a bit boring and sometimes flavorless, but I’ve never been disappointed by any sandwich/wrap that I ordered.
There is no reason that Dino’s should not be frequented more often. Give it a shot and you may be impressed by the friendly welcome you receive from the owner and staff and the atmosphere is Mediterranean and refreshing! Dino’s is a good alternative to other options downtown yet it seems that no one knows it exists.
Next time you chose a lunch venue give Dino’s a shot. You may be surprised by what you find.
Overall rating: 7/10

My wife Blagica and I love downtown Milwaukee (Coastal restaurant is great) so we will definitely check out Dino’s on our next trip. We like Greek cuisine, Artopolis and Greek Islands being our favs in Chicago.

Great to hear you like Milwaukee, the Freshcoast City! You should give Dino’s a shot. Do keep in mind that it is not authentic Greek cuisine as one would get in Chicago, but more ‘another option for lunch during the work week’ as I would call it. Ouzo’s, on Milwaukee Street may be an option for true Greek cuisine if you’ve not been there before.
